Q: How did you get into commercial real estate?
A: I started out as an Intern with NavPoint and was fortunate enough to join the team full time after graduating college. Since then, I’ve learned from some of the best in the industry and developed a passion of my own for real estate investment sales.
Q: Were you in CRE during the 2007-2008 financial crisis? If so, what lessons are you taking from that and applying during this pandemic?
A: Nope, I was just starting High School. 🙂
Q: What’s your most memorable deal?
A: My most memorable deal was the sale of Spring Valley Golf Club in Elizabeth, Colorado. There was a significant amount of interest in the asset which we eventually sold via online auction. It was exciting watching the bidding for the golf course increase by the minute and the final price exceed the Seller’s expectations.
Q: How do you describe what you do to friends, family and people outside the industry?
A: I usually point to the nearest office building or retail center and tell them I work with investors to acquire or sell income producing assets like that one to help them reach their financial goals.
Q: Work-life balance is frequently talked about in our industry. How do you manage your career and while making time for your family and personal life?
A: I try as best as I can to be as productive and efficient as possible during the day/week in order to keep the phone and computer away at night and on the weekends. Prioritization and time management are two things I learned while playing college golf that have helped me keep a nice work-life balance.
Q: Walk us through an average day. What is your normal routine?
A: I typically start my day sifting through my inbox and searching the market for new opportunities. Throughout the rest of my day I underwrite properties and build cash flow models while simultaneously managing transaction deadlines. I prefer ending my days relaxing with family, playing a quick nine holes, or hitting the gym for a quick workout.
Q: What hobbies and passions do you have outside of work?
A: I enjoy spending time with family and friends, whether on the golf course, sporting events, or concerts. I also enjoy taking long weekends to visit family and friends in Arizona, California, Nebraska, and Wyoming.
Q: What’s something not many clients know about you?
A: I am a direct descendant of a Declaration of Independence signer and have met a former United States President.
Q: Any advice you would give your younger self?
A: Don’t sweat the little things.
